More than often, businesses struggle with engagement on their social media. It isn't easy to get likes, comments and new followers, especially if you're new to social.
When we struggle with social media engagement, it's usually because posts aren't useful or interactive enough.
We need a balance of selling and entertainment to keep followers' interest. No one wants to be spammed with daily ads!
Here's my list of five social media posts you can use to boost engagement.
1. Competitions & Giveaways
These are a great way to create posts that blow up with likes and comments.
Consider an offering your audience may be interested in:
Freebies
Deals
Gift cards
Gift packs
Anything related to what your business offers!
Make sure it's enticing enough that people want to participate for a chance to win! Will you give out the prize randomly, or build a competition?
You should ask all participants to like and comment on the post, and follow your page. You can even ask people to share the post or tag a friend for an extra entry. This creates mass brand awareness!
2. Viral content
Viral content is the best way to get your brand its ‘15 minutes of fame’. By creating a post that your audience will share, you're engaging more people with your brand.
You should try to create your own viral content, but it isn't easy! Don't be disheartened if a post 'flops'.
Alternatively, you can benefit from viral content by engaging with a current trend. This is an easy way to 'steal' engagement from something that's already popular. Consider posting memes, commenting on news, or participating in a current social media challenge.
3. Polls
Ask an interesting question and get your audience to respond. This not only starts a conversation, it's a sneaky way to do some research!
Instagram has made polls easy by allowing you to simply post them on your story. But, you can still create polls on most major social media platforms.
Pick a topic relevant to your business (or a current trend) and think of a fun question you can ask about it. Maybe you want to ask which colours to use for a new product, or something simple (but controversial) like whether pineapple should go on pizza!
Everyone has an opinion, and they will be excited to respond. They'll be engaging with your brand, and you'll get an insight into their lives.
4. Livestreams
Video is steadily becoming more popular. Livestreaming has the same benefits, but you also get great interaction through real-time comments and reactions.
You might decide to broadcast an event, a tutorial, a behind-the-scenes tour, etc... there are endless possibilities! Think about what your audience might like to see.
Livestreaming is also a great way to speak directly to your audience and have a discussion. It might be a Q&A about a new product, or an interview with someone who has used your services.
5. User-generated content
User-generated content is anything your audience posts that you can use in your own marketing.
You might repost a picture of your product from a happy customer, or share a 5-star review. This builds your relationship with customers and encourages others to post about you!
The best way to get user-generated content is to simply ask your audience to tag your page in posts. People will be happy to participate – if they’re loyal to your business, they'll be excited by the chance to be featured on your page.
